Hospice Nursing: The Heart of Healing

Nurses are the primary team members who coordinate, assess, direct and evaluate patient care needs that arise during the illness experience.

Hospice is a special concept of care designed to provide comfort and support to patients and their families when a life-limiting illness no longer responds to cure-oriented treatments. Hospice addresses all symptoms of a disease, with a special emphasis on alleviating a patient's pain and suffering.

Through a holistic lens, nursing knowledge includes the physical, psychosocial and spiritual dimensions of life limiting illness. Nurses are central in assuring the comfort, autonomy, and healing of patients and families. Nurses provide compassionate and quality care at end of life

A key barrier to good end-of-life care is inadequate knowledge of pain management, symptom control, and other dimensions of terminal-illness care.

This program offers a unique opportunity for Hospice nurses to experience innovative integrative, holistic nursing practices that assist in alleviating pain and suffering and facilitate the mechanisms of healing during end of life care.

Integrative Nursing Institute’s  Integrative Hospice Nursing program provides clinical skills and creative solutions for hospice nurses in their work as guides to the dying and support to families and significant others. This program assists the hospice nurse in deepening his/her inner wisdom and learning new skills through participation in the following healing modalities:

• Guided Imagery & Visualization
• Therapeutic Touch, Massage, Reiki, and other energy therapies
• Hypnosis
• Stress Reduction/relaxation Techniques

Course Overview:

• Current research in the fields of body-mind-spirit integration, psychoneuroimmunology, and energy medicine
• Cross cultural perspectives in health and healing, living and dying.
• Tools for nurse self care for enhancing personal wellness and professional growth
• Enhancing the spirit of caring, compassion,presence, and intuition
• The role of Integrative Nursing in comfort care

This program will be using several educational methods including video, didactic, journaling, discussion, self identified spiritual practices, field work, and experiential modalities. Our state of the art video features many nurse healers and pioneers in the forefront of research and practice in integrative healthcare today and focuses on hospice care. This program has been accredited for 18.5 CE's. by Critical Care Nurses Association(ACCN)

Susan Luck, RN, BA, MA, HNC, CCN-pioneer, national speaker, educator and consultant on Integrative healthcare, who has written and published extensively on the role of nursing in a holistic health paradigm. As a medical anthropologist, she has specialized in cross-cultural perspectives on health and healing. Producer of training video used in this training.
